Dear Sir or Madam, |
Frankfurt, the bustling metropolis on the River Main, is well known for its flavoursome regional cuisine. We invite culinary enthusiasts to come and try our delicious range of wintertime specialities, which you’ll find being served in rustic taverns, skyline restaurants set high above the city streets and everywhere in between. Yet another place to take in Frankfurt’s imposing high-rise silhouette is the “City Alm”, a cosy Alpine hut replete with beer garden and guarantees of fun and frivolity. The best place to enjoy the yuletide season, however, is the famous Frankfurt Christmas Market, known to be one of the oldest and most popular in all of Germany. Wintertime also holds much in store for fans of culture and the arts. Frankfurt’s unique museum embankment – one of Germany’s most significant cultural landscapes – is home to a superb series of museums, set side by side along the River Main like pearls on a string.
With best regards

City Alm |
|
Between October and March, the rooftop of Parkhaus Konstabler is the home of a rustic Alpine cabin serving traditional foods and fresh draught beer in a warm and merry atmosphere. From Thursday to Sunday, the log cabin becomes the scene of the much-loved “Hüttengaudi”, offering “mountains” of fun for one and all. The setting’s not half-bad, either, with all the action taking place before the backdrop of the spectacular Frankfurt skyline! During October, visitors of City Alm’s outdoor beer garden have the chance to enjoy the last sunny days of autumn. Then, in November, it’s time for “CityXmas” – the loftiest Christmas market in all of Frankfurt.

Frankfurt Christmas Market |
|
The Frankfurt Christmas Market, one of the oldest and most beautiful of its kind in all of Germany, traditionally takes place at the end of the year. Numerous Advent concerts are staged in the heart of Frankfurt’s old town centre, with the daily playing of the tower horns from the balcony of St Nicholas Church offering harmonious musical accompaniment. Regional Christmas specialities – including hot apple wine, “Bethmännchen” marzipan biscuits and the popular dried prune figurines known as “Quetschemännchen” – have a long tradition in Frankfurt and make for much-loved souvenirs. This year’s Christmas market is also the first to spatially incorporate the New Frankfurt Old Town, the perfect place to enjoy the nostalgic charm of the old world.

Städel Museum: “Lotte Laserstein. Face to Face“ |
|
Laserstein’s oeuvre ranks amongst the great art-historical rediscoveries of recent times. This show comprises sensitive as well as compelling portraits from the final years of the Weimar Republic. In her paintings, the artist placed the primary focus of attention on representations of the so-called “New Woman”, capturing her pictorial motifs from a decidedly female perspective.

Schirn Kunsthalle: “King of the Animals. Wilhelm Kuhnert and the Image of Africa” |
|
Wilhelm Kuhnert shaped the notion of Africa more than any other artist of his era. Having visited the “Dark Continent” multiple times between 1891 and 1912, he was one of the first European painters to travel extensively through the German colonies of East Africa, which were still largely unexplored at the time. Kuhnert enjoyed great success with his international exhibitions and thus became one of the leading interpreters of the spectacular animal kingdom of Africa. |
